Methods to Optimize Oculus Rift

One of the most notable problems of Oculus Rift CV1 is its low resolution. The headset uses two separate OLED displays that receive visual information from a very powerful PC equipped with the most productive graphics cards. But, despite this, the resolution of Rift definitely leaves much to be desired. It is even lower than the resolution of modern HDTVs.

This is an objective criticism of Rift, but, as often happens in the onset of troubled times, a hero appears who is ready to come to the aid of mere mortals. Here are tips for optimization performance OR methods. French portal Enter the Rift published a note describing a simple way how to increase the perceived resolution of the headset:

Step 1: You will need a high-performance graphics card (at least GTX 970 / R9 290). Step 2: Download the Oculus SDK 1.3.2. or the version above. Step 3: Run the Oculus debugger. Find the parameter "Pixels Per Display Pixel Override" (do not take into account the ratio of pixels of the device to the pixels of the display) and change its value from 0 to 2. You can experiment with other values ??to find the most suitable among them for your video card. Step 4: Close the debug menu. This is to avoid overloading your PC in the game. Step 5: Start Oculus Home, select the desired game and enjoy the increased resolution!

Many Rift users have already reported positive results. Increasing the screen resolution is, undoubtedly, the main direction of development for Oculus as the work on Rift 2.0 progresses. However, these simple solutions will help improve the consumer quality of the headset until the release of this new mythical device.
